RCP 3D Transformer is a powerful tool enabling to visualize the 3D files and to generate transformation processes of 3D data in order to convert them in a large number of formats. The transformations ensure the good conversion of the 3D files of an application towards another and to optimize the 3D in order for each tool to be the most successful as possible.

For instance, a modeler will prefer to have the textures in a separate files (RCP operation: “Cut the atlas”) but to increase the performance of display, you have to merge the images in the atlas (RCP operation: “Create the atlas”).


RCP works in 3 steps:



  • Import of 3D files (multi-formats: 3DS, Geodatabase, Shapefile, FBX, Collada, CityGML…)

  • Transformation chaining: a chain is composed of one or several operations of 3D transformations

  • Export of 3D files (multi-format: KMZ, X, 3DS, Shapefile, Collada, FBX, CityGML, Multipatch geodatabase ArcGIS Esri)


With RCP, the users choose the transformations they want to do with the most adapted parameters, then they launch the conversion batch processing. The transformations ensure that the 3D data are structured properly with the good textures and the good metadata. For example, to clean and structure the 3D files coming from suppliers, you control and adapt in an instant the 3D data in the format you want. RCP suggests also using the filters to limit some processings to certain specific data.

RCP 3D Transformer offers processing operation specialized in the world of 3D GIS; however, the application can be used in all business fields dealing with 3D. We are at your disposal to add new 3D formats and new 3D operations according to your business specificities.

RCP 3D Transformer goes with a graphical application (“GraphViewer”) displaying files in 3D. The GraphViewer enables also to visualize the metadata and the intern structure of a file (data hierarchy, matrix, etc.). GraphViewer owns a simple functionality enabling to geoposition easily and graphically a 3D object.

To adapt the hierarchy

Structure a 3D files in the CityGML classification (roofs, facade, building…)

To go from a standard or GDB multipatch 3D file to a CityGML structure, organizing the elements according to the official norm. This operation enables for instance to separate the roods and the facades in a CityGML file, if the source data enables it.

To center

Position the 3D files at the center and save the position in a XML file

Very used by computer-graphics people (3DS Max, Sketchup…) because the 3D model are position at the center of the screen to be modified, while keeping their geographical coordinates

To convert the images

Convert the images of texture in another format (jpg, tif, png, dds, bmp…) with transparency management

For example, to reduce 3D files for web publication by reducing its textures

To create atlas

Gather the images of textures in an atlas file (mosaic)

Optimize the performances of graphic maps by decreasing the number of textures to manage

To convert in simples triangles

Convert the 3D structures 3D of types « triangle strip » and « triangle fan » tristrip / trifans in simple triangles

Some applications don’t know how to read these 3D complex structures such as Google Earth.

To cut the atlas

Separate the images of textures in unique images files

Very used to easily modify the 3D models with a modeling tool (3DS Max, Sketchup, Photoshop…)

To cut by material

Separate the elements of a 3D model according the materials used

To separate the concrete, the wood, the floor, etc., when the 3D model is properly textured; very used to work with architecture projects coming from CAD or Revit.

To group the nodes

Merge several 3D files in one unique 3D file

Very useful to go from a list of files to one single file.

To limit the resolution

Decrease smartly (according the number of pixels per square meter) the quality of the images to reduce the size of the 3D file

Very used to increase the performances of the 3D visual rendering without damaging the “low definition” areas. Numerous parameters enable the management of a large number of cases.

To normalize UV

Calculate again the values of the textures coordinates to put them in value between 0 and 1 without changing the data

Cleaning and normalization avoiding the bad representation of textures in some 3D tools.

To transform the scene

Define a geoposition, turn, change the scale, change the unit
